Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Argungu Local Government Area (LGA) in Kebbi State is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, particularly the Argungu Festival, which is one of Nigeria's most celebrated cultural events. The festival, which includes traditional fishing, music, and dance, attracts thousands of tourists from across the country and the world. The region’s geopolitical context, shaped by ethnic diversity, regional politics, and national tourism policies, significantly influences the development and sustainability of cultural tourism. Geopolitical factors such as regional governance, security, and the coordination of local and federal resources play pivotal roles in shaping the tourism sector (Adamu & Yusuf, 2024).
The study will examine the geopolitical influences on cultural tourism in Argungu, focusing on the role of local government policies, regional collaboration, and national tourism strategies in promoting or hindering the growth of cultural tourism in the area. The research will also explore the interplay between traditional cultural practices and contemporary tourism trends, highlighting the challenges and opportunities faced by local communities in maximizing the benefits of cultural tourism.

Cultural tourism in Argungu LGA faces various challenges, including underdevelopment of tourism infrastructure, inadequate promotion, and the influence of local political dynamics on resource allocation.
